For efficient homogenisation, shaking flasks, grinding balls or beads are combined to give the best results. Grinding materials made of Tungsten carbide, stainless steel, glass or agate can be combined with flasks made of stainless steel or PTFE. Disposable cryotubes can also be used. Brittle materials (bones, teeth, pigments) and frozen tissue samples, such as biopsies, cartilage, hair, skin, are powdered quickly.
